48 years old. I was only 48 years old, in July of 2023, when I was diagnosed with two cancers within two weeks.
I had just bought a condo with the man I had been sharing my life with for four years. Our little corner of paradise. I had just found a job in the region where we had just moved. And it was because I needed a medical note for this new job that I took the opportunity to do my annual tests and exams. The result: chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and stage 3 cervical cancer.
Shortly after, my health deteriorated. I had to be hospitalized several times and undergo urgent treatments. I quickly plunged into an intense medical journey: 25 sessions of radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and brachytherapy. I am also on my third targeted treatment for CML, as the first two disrupted my blood count. The treatments for cervical cancer caused myelodysplasia, I am now awaiting a stem cell transplant.
This entire period has been very difficult for my family and friends, who feel quite helpless. Just like our colleagues and employers who have offered my partner and me essential flexibility, their support has been and remains invaluable through this journey.
I decided to document my life with two cancers on TikTok, and this community has brought me a lot of love and support. If only I could convince one person to get tested...
Since March of 2024, I have been in remission from cervical cancer. As I could not return to my previous job, I found a new one. In my field, no less! I also obtained my driver's license and bought my first car. Each small victory is a source of hope and motivation. You start noticing life's little gifts more.
There is beauty in cancer too. Our love is greater and stronger thanks to the difficulties and obstacles we have had to overcome.
Today, cancer no longer rhymes with condemnation. Being positive is a necessary quality to get through it. It lightens the burden and allows us to fight harder.
Every day, step out of bed telling yourself: one less day for cancer, one more day for me! Even on the days when you no longer believe it. Repeat it until you do!
