"To honor Jacob's memory and help advance pediatric cancer research, several teams carry the name 'Jacob STRONG' at sporting and charitable events."

Jacob Tourigny was a lively 11-year-old boy with a passion for downhill skiing. In December 2018, he decided to put together a team to compete in a ski competition to support pediatric cancer research. Unfortunately, in February 2019, while ski season was in full swing, Jacob was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. The disease progressed rapidly and only eight days after the diagnosis, Jacob passed away in the intensive care unit at Ste-Justine Hospital.

Jacob's mother, Karine Mainville, turned her anger and grief into resilience and courage, and has since participated in several fundraising campaigns to support the cause. Jacob's story has touched many people across Quebec. To honor Jacob's memory and help advance pediatric cancer research, several teams carry the name "Jacob STRONG" at sporting and charitable events.

Karine Mainville, herself, has taken on the challenge of going from volunteer to cyclist during a sporting event, cycling 600km over 4 days. Her goal is to support research and improve treatments for children with cancer.

In tribute to Jacob Tourigny, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada invites those touched by this story to contribute to pediatric cancer research efforts. Your support will help fund promising research projects and help other children fight this disease.
