We walk for my dad

Team Jackie

We walk for my dad. He has battled with leukemia for 13 years now, and although he is doing okay now, he has his good days and his bad days.

For me, it was a huge shock, you never think that someone you know and love will be affected by something so life changing. It has been a long journey for us, and he still takes medication everyday, and has regular check ups, but on his last visit they confirmed that he showed no signs of leukemia. I don't know whether that was a fluke, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

We were inspired to join Light The Night through a mutual friend that described the event to us. When we tried to register it was too late to sign up, it was a very busy point in our lives and we were disappointed that we missed the deadline, but last year was our first year. I found the experience overall to be very rewarding, hearing everyone's stories and knowing that so many people are going through similar situations is really inspiring.

It was a great experience for our family to be able to come together and do the walk to show our support for dad no matter the weather on the day of the event! I think that it's important to support your family and friends, if something is important to them, then it should be important to you as well.
