Naomi Garcia | Leukemia Survivor

Naomi Garcia's Story

You've heard of the terrible twos? For our sweet, 2 1/2 year old daughter, Naomi, the phrase had a very different meaning. She was a lovely, playful little girl when we got the heartbreaking news -- she had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). It was worse than terrible for the whole Garcia family. We didn't know much about ALL so we assumed the worst. But her doctors and nurses gave us reassurance that our angel would be in good hands.

Still, the first few months were tough for all of us. Our little girl had to deal with daily medications and chemotherapy, causing physical and emotional stress. Watching your child go through all of it was hard.

So when we were introduced to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), it was like the cavalry had come to our rescue. LLS supported our family through a situation we would never have been able to manage on our own. Everyone there has shown love and care for Naomi and has made a big difference in our lives.

Now Naomi is in maintenance treatment and doing so well -- she's started pre-school and is nothing but cheerful as she waits for her bus each morning. And we have renewed hope that she will be able to live a life of good things. We say, "Thanks, LLS, for helping our family and many others live better lives."
