LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK

IBRIANA GARCIA - 6 years old

Our friends and family will be walking in Light The Night (Toronto) on October 7, 2010 in honour of our daugher Ibriana Gabriela Garcia.

Ibriana had been suffering from several symptoms similar to that of flu, pneumonia, and mumps. We would not have guessed in a million years that our daughter actually had a blood cancer.

After a happy Christmas with our family we could see that Ibriana was still not doing well. We took her to Sick Kid?s Hospital where on December 26, 2006 she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) at two and a half years old.

The doctors advised us to be prepared for the worst as she started chemotherapy. We did not know how we were going to get through those desperate times, but her illness actually made us stronger. Our spiritual beliefs showed us that the advances of medicine coupled with our faith can work miracles.

We are so proud of our brave daughter making it through two and a half years of treatment.  Due to the doctors, nurses and volunteers at Sick Kids Hospital, along with the support and prayers from friends and family, Ibriana has been in remission since April 2009.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) became a valuable source of information and resources for us. Help support blood cancer research and all survivors like Ibriana by walking with us at

Light The Night Toronto (Nathan Phillips Square), on October 7, 2010.
