Mr. Buzan is a graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and current memberships in both the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen and the American Association of Professional Landmen. He currently is a Land Manager with over 39 years’ experience in all facets of land management within North America. After beginning his career with Dome Petroleum, Mr. Buzan held senior positions with a variety of companies. He was Vice President – Land & Negotiations at Gentry Resources Ltd., President and Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Canadian Energy Exploration Inc. which was merged into another public junior entity in October 2012, he worked as a Senior Associate at Niven Fischer Energy Services Inc. for over 2 years performing the land function on behalf of up to 9 internal companies and in July 2016 he joined Prairie Storm Energy Corp., a Cardium shale producer with over 2500 boepd as their Land Manager, managing their acquisition and operating strategy. He gained his knowledge and experience through exploration, exploitation as well as acquisitions and divestiture activity in all the producing regions of Western Canada, the northern United States and both frontier regions in the N.W.T. and Alaska.

Mr. Buzan completed his 2nd term as Past President of the 1400+ membership Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen (C.A.P.L.) in 2019, having served as the only 2-term President and 2-term Past President of the Association, and having just received the Life Membership Award from the Association in May of 2018. Mr. Buzan was among the first groups of individuals who earned the Association’s Professional Landman accreditation (P. Land designation) and Mr. Buzan served in a leadership role on many other C.A.P.L. committees. In 2005 Mr. Buzan was awarded the Association’s second highest honour, the Distinguished Citizen Award, and for six years from 2010-2016, Mr. Buzan served the C.A.P.L. in his capacity as Chair of the Merit Awards Committee.

Mr. Buzan volunteers on a number of charities and has done so for many years including the Light the Night Leukemia charity as the volunteer chairperson together with his son Dillon a 7-year cancer survivor; 11 years on the Canmore Hospital Foundation fund raiser where Mr. Buzan chaired the annual September CCC Golf Tourney raising over $425,000 in the last 14 years with fellow landman, and his close friend AAPL member and past AAPL Director Gary Montgomery; Mr. Buzan has worked on site with Partners In Deed and Arms of Jesus – both Canadian charities - raising funds for education, building schools, homes and assisting the lives of families in the poorest community of La Vega Maria Auxiliadoria in the Dominican Republic and in the community of Paramos Guatemala having already built over 460 homes with Canadian students and adults for 15 years.
