CALGARY WALK
Lindsay Lenny
In April 2005 I was feeling tired and weak. After some routine blood work I received a call saying I needed to go to the hospital emergency.
I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Following months of chemotherapy, severe infections and on many occasions fighting for my life, I endured a stem cell transplant in June. My sister was my donor. I have been in remission for four years and owe my life to the doctors, nurses, family, friends and the LLSC - who have seen me through the most difficult days of my life.
EDMONTON WALK
Brittney Tancowny
Brittney was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009. Chemotherapy was started immediately but the cancer had attacked her entire gastrointestinal system.
Brittney spent 10 days in ICU; her prognosis was poor.
Brittney managed to survive weeks in Intensive Care and months in hospital. She was determined to beat this disease.
In 2010, Brittney walked in the Light The Night Walk carrying an illuminated white survivor balloon. Brittney believes that one day a cure will be found. Today she is living her life fully with a huge appreciation for LLSC.
SASKATOON WALK
Patty Stevens
In 2005 I was a nurse and busy mom to Hunter and Cameron. I was diagnosed with a rare combination of 2 types of leukemia-ALL and CML. I was given the news that my chance for five year survival, even with a stem cell transplant, was only 10-15 %. In January 2006 I arrived in Seattle with my sister Darci, who was a perfect match to be my donor. After the conditioning chemo and radiation, I received my transplant.
Five years later, I am cancer-free and every day after school my boys arrive home with ?Hi Mom!? and for that I am grateful.
